Every year, Army ROTCs across the nation send their most elite Cadets to a grueling, two-day competition in which they are pushed beyond their limits both physically and mentally in order to prove they are the best of the best; those Cadets are Ranger Challenge. The regional competition takes place annually at Fort Pickett, Virginia in mid-October and the winning Ranger Challenge Team will then compete in the national competition in the spring. The competition consists of many tactical events, such as a Grenade Assault Course, Basic Rifle Marksmanship, and Patrolling Operations. All of the two-day events culminate into the sixteen-mile, ruck march where the events are scored and teams are ranked based on speed and accuracy of performance. The team’s goal is to ceaselessly strive to grow stronger, faster, and more knowledgeable, in order to dominate the Ranger Challenge Competition and continually develop themselves as future Army leaders.
